That doesn't eliminate the need for good preparation along the way. But it is a source of encouragement for those of us who don't always feel up to the job of speaking on His behalf.

She could bring a sense of soothing comfort that was unique and time certain. In the same way, the Spirit of God is given not just to convict, prompt, instruct, and empower us. The Spirit is also given to comfort us in times of pain, frustration, and sadness.

NA</itunesThe term "sanctified" is just a fancy way of saying "cleaned up". One of the major jobs of the Holy Spirit is to walk with us day by day, year by year, and remove all the junk and dirt and impurities that keep us from reflecting the very image of Christ. As much as we might like this to be an instant, one time exchange, the fact of the matter is that it is never completely finished until we stand before the Lord in person.

The construction of "The Church" requires a similar assortment of tools, often referred to as the gifts of the Spirit. All too often, however, these gifts are used to bring glory to the owner rather than being used to build the Body and glorify Christ.

Too many believers drag through life, wondering why they don't experience a greater sense of victory and power. The key lies in a daily, conscious dependence on the Holy Spirit.

No human can bring that sense of conviction - it can only be done through internal working of the Holy Spirit. That's why all effective evangelism begins with prayer that the Holy Spirit will bring a person to that point of need.

The unstated implication of that affirmation, however, is that my ego is thereby displaced from center stage - with all that that implies for my life and agendas. It's great to celebrate Him as the coming King in the abstract, but when it comes down to relinquishing my right to call the shots, that suddenly becomes another story.

There is no plan B, and most/all other religions of the world propose at what is a self-improvement plan. Not only do the other options have goals other than the Kingdom of God, their assessment of the underlying problem differs radically. But through it all, God's purpose in the Gospel is to invite and draw all people to himself through the work of grace offered to us by His Son.

No Christmas pageant ever includes a depiction of this tragedy, yet it is an integral part of the Christmas story. Why? In part it is Matthew's way of letting us know that Jesus is the new Moses (whose own entry into this world began with a slaughter of the innocents). But could it also be that this account interrupts our sanitized depictions of Christmas and reminds us that God entered a very brutal world in order to redeem us? If the Gospel can flourish in a world that produces the slaughter of the innocents and the horrors of the cross, the Gospel can flourish anywhere.</itunes:summary>
