The Act of Service
May 4, 2008 • Pastor John Martz
Most people like being served, even if it is not their primary love language. But Jesus communicated very clearly that the way to a person's heart is not through their stomach, but through their feet. He modeled servanthood in a way that threw Peter and the disciples off balance, but I doubt they ever forgot that expression of love.

A Gentle Touch
April 27, 2008 • Pastor John Martz
Can you imagine the emotional impact of leprosy on your emotional and relational life? This leper probably hadn't been touched in years, yet Jesus not only healed him, but he did what no one else would do: he communicated his love for this man by touching him. Jesus might have done so at the risk of his own health and life, but the need of this man for emotional as well as physical healing compelled Jesus to communicate his love by doing the unthinkable.

Some Time Well Spent
April 20, 2008 • Pastor John Martz
Two sisters with very different love languages provide a study in contrasts. While Martha's love language was most likely "acts of service", one gets the strong impression that Mary's was "time together." These folks express their love and receive love primarily through time spent together. This is hard in a fast paced, hectic culture like ours where time is a very precious commodity. But for this personality type, it is key to the communication of love.

An Encouraging Word
April 13, 2008 • Pastor John Martz
For those of us whose primary love language is "words of affirmation" the support and encouragement of others are like water to our soul. The faith of the Centurion elicited from Jesus one of the highest compliments he could pay. Not only did that Centurion receive the healing for his servant that he had requested, but he knew that even as a Gentile his faith was affirmed by the Savior in unequivocal terms.

A Gift Given
April 6, 2008 • Pastor John Martz
Jesus knew how to bless people in a variety of ways, but his first recorded miracle was at the Wedding Feast of Cana, where he gave the very gracious gift of prodigious libations! Not only did he guarantee that the party could continue uninterupted, he saved the host from a potentially embarrassing situation.
