Today more and more African Americans are calling abortion the genocide of their community. While every other minority group in the country is growing as a percentage of the population, the African American community is barely at replacement levels. And the single most dominant factor in that trend is the impact of abortion on this part of our American community. How can a community be in good health, and have their soul prosper, when more and more of their children are terminated before they are even born?

Not only do we grow individually, but we grow as a church too. God is moving in us and through us to make a difference in our community. Our three core words: Transform, Together, and Tell speak to what we are doing as a church and the new things we hope to see God doing in 2012.

What does it mean to grow spiritually? The hope of the Christian life is spiritual transformation but often we don't "feel" like we are growing in new and different ways. Where are you on the spiritual journey and what are the next steps God has for you? How does Transform, Together, and Tell speak into that?
December 25 2011: The Gifts of Christmas (Christmas Eve)
Pastor John • 27:19

Two characters in the Christmas story (Anna and Simeon) would be considered by most people to be well past their prime. But this begs the question about the prime of life: to a 25 year old gymnast, they're past their prime; to a 36 year basketball player, they're on the downhill slope; to the 45 year old beauty queen, her photo shoots have seen better days. When are you in the prime of life? According to the message of Christmas, you are in your prime whenever you follow the leading of the Spirit and recognize Jesus for who He is - our Savior, Messiah, and Lord. And that can be at 8, 18, or 80!
December 18 2011: Micah's Vision of Peace (4th Sunday of Advent)
Pastor John • 30:00

In this passage Micah promises that a ruler will arise in Bethlehem, and it is this ruler who alone can and will bring peace to the world. The longing for peace in our hearts is a whispered reminder that “you were made for better days.” Jesus is indeed our peace. But this peace must first enter our hearts, and then from there we can be agents of His peace to the world around us, knowing that one day His greatness and His peace will “reach the ends of the earth.”

December 11 2011: Malachi's Clean-Up Plan (3rd Sunday of Advent)
Pastor John • 26:15

There is no doubt in Malachi's mind that God loves His people in general, and us in particular. But that love is so deep that it will not allow us to remain the same. Even as the lava soap that can get rid of deep down dirt and grime leaves us red and sore, so the nature of God's love is not to leave us in our dirt and shame - it is to change us and renew us. And some of that transformation comes through the abrasive elements of life that God allows in order to mold us and shape us into his image.
December 4 2011: Zephaniah's Love Song (2nd Sunday of Advent)
Pastor Nate • 27:28

Even though he was a prophet who had to deliver some bad news, Zephaniah also spoke of God’s amazing love and the better days to come. In this passage we learn that God’s love is fierce (“He is mighty to save”), it is delight-ful (“He will take great delight in you”), and it is wonderfully calming (“He will rejoice over you with singing”). How would your life change if you could believe, receive, and rest in the promises in this passage?
November 27 2011: Jeremiah's Dangerous Hope (1st Sunday of Advent)
Pastor John • 27:27
Stream Audio | Download Audio | Notes
Advent is all about hope, particularly the hope of the coming Christ. But real hope can become a dangerous thing: it calls us to act in accordance with the hope; it calls us to risk; and it calls us to a vision of the future that can forever change the way we view the present.

Jochebed is probably not a Biblical name on the tip of your tongue, but as the mother of Moses she provides us with some good insight on how to be a Godly parent in difficult days.

The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, Generous inside and out, true from start to finish.

We experience power in a variety of different forms. But what kind of power does it take to bring a dead man back to life? It is a power that can turn a life inside out and upside down, and gives us tremendous hope both for this life, and the life to come.

Our third spiritual discipline is fasting, which is both alien to and much needed in our culture. Few things can get our attention like a growling stomach, and it is amazing how times of intentional deprivation can be surprisingly spiritual acts! Perhaps that's why Jesus fasted for the first 40 days of his public ministry!

Stream Audio | Download Audio | Notes | Good Scripture Passages to Memorize
Most cultures prior to ours were aural cultures, & committing things to memory was considered a normal part of life. We believe the key is not what you know, but knowing where to find it. While that's good, there's no replacement for getting the Word of God inside you & allowing it to become part of the very fabric of your being.
