From Policy to People: A Conversation on Immigration and the Church

Arvada Covenant Church hosted a thoughtful community conversation on Thursday evening during an event titled From Policy to People: The Church’s Call in a Confusing Immigration Environment, presented by World Relief.

The event featured Matthew Soerens, vice president of advocacy and policy at World Relief, in conversation with Kirby Holmes, national director of church partnerships. Together, they explored the complexities surrounding immigration in the United States and invited attendees to consider how Scripture shapes the Church’s response to those seeking refuge and opportunity.

Throughout the evening, Soerens and Holmes helped frame immigration not only as a political issue but as a deeply human one. They discussed the realities many immigrants and refugees face, the historical and legal context of U.S. immigration policy, and the ways Christians are called to respond with both compassion and wisdom.

Rather than focusing on political divisions, the conversation encouraged participants to move beyond headlines and engage the topic through a biblical lens. Scripture repeatedly calls God’s people to welcome the stranger, care for the vulnerable, and pursue justice. The discussion challenged those in attendance to consider how those themes can shape the posture of the Church today.

Arvada Covenant Church was grateful to partner with World Relief for this important conversation and for everyone who came to listen, learn, and reflect together.

Events like this are part of Arvada Covenant’s ongoing commitment to engage important issues through the lens of faith.
